An Overview
A Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant was developed by B & G Solar Private Limited in Komal West Village, Kuttalam Taluk, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu, India. This Plant is of the capacity of 1 MW and was successfully commissioned on 10th June, 2011. It is the ‘FIRST” Plant in Tamil Nadu and at “All India Level” , under the Rooftop PV and Small Solar Generation Program (RPSSGP), under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) scheme, approved by IREDA / MNRE, Govt. of India. The average solar radiation for the site is 1950.2 kWh/m2. The Plant has been generating an average of 14.9 million units per annum (i.e. 1490000 kWh) for the past 2 years and 3 months of successful operation with a Plant Load Factor of 17.09%.

Details of the project
The EPC i.e. Engineering/Procurement/Construction for this project was given to TATA Power Solar Systems Limited. They incorporated 4400 numbers of 230Wp PV modules/panels of TATA BP make with an efficiency of 13.4%, ABB-Solar Inverters of 2 Nos. (500 kW each), SCADA system and other Balance of Materials in the land area of 5.5 acres. The Power Evacuation/Grid Tie-up has been done using 11 kV HT line, connected to Palaiyur Sub-Substation, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu.
The promoters for the Project are 1.Ramky Group, Hyderabad, India 2.BGI Group, Chennai, India 3.NRI Group, Washington, USA. The Project was financed by the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai, India

Awards
The Hon. Prime Minister of India presented an Award to M/s. B&G Solar Private Limited for being the “FIRST” to commission the 1 MW Solar Power Project under the Rooftop PV and Small Solar Generation Program (RPSSGP), under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) scheme, approved by IREDA / MNRE, Govt. of India at Komal West Village, Kuttalam Taluk, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu, on 21st September 2013 at Jaipur, India. Mr. B.V. Gautam, Director-B&G Solar Pvt. Ltd. received the award from the Hon. Prime Minister of India.
